Posted in My Three Questions

Becca Kenyon

September 25, 2019. I am trying to get interviews from all different parts of Canada, including the farm voice. This is not easy. I went into a Case dealer nearby and was declined, I think, because of shyness.  I find this frustrating, but what can I do? So, I went to H.H. Goode & Son Feed and Farm Supply Store here in Uxbridge. I had high hopes when I began talking with a sun-burnt faced fellow sitting on his open tailgate waiting for his order at the front dock. His order came and I sussed out that he was a dairy farmer and mentioned this. He said that he "used to be." So I am assuming that he was retired. I was desperate for his brain loot though. I knew he had stories but he was jut too shy. He kept looking at the ground and when I asked him if he would answer my three questions, he said, "Oh, I don't know," in that way. You can tell when someone is simply too kind to decline outright. I was disappointed, but I wasn't going to push him. I love people like him though. Once you get them talking, when you win their trust, they usually have the best stories. I hope to run into him again. Once we parted, I went inside the store and met Becca–fire and fun! She was lovely! Here are her answers:

Are you in love?

"Yes. With my boyfriend of a year. He lives just about an hour from here.”

Who has been the most influential person in your life?

"I would have to say, ‘my grandmother.’ She–we lost my grandfather about two years ago, so she’s–she’s a very strong woman, keeping together the whole family.”

How do you feel about the future?

"Um. I don’t know!  Thinking about it makes me excited, but anxious. Kinda like, ‘cause you don’t know–you hear all this stuff about climate change that gets you worried, but also, you’re excited to see what comes. Maybe things change. Maybe not. Maybe we’re screwed! Maybe we’re okay! So, it gets me anxious thinking about it.”
